Introducing our party safe tips, just in time for schoolies next week and the summer party season !

We asked our party people what some of their favourite harm reduction tips include and here are the most popular!

Education & informed decision making ‘Just say know!’
– learning about substance effects, dosages, unsafe combos, the law & your rights.

Pace yourself!
– drinking water or non alcoholic drinks in between alcoholic drinks, or sticking to lower alcohol percentage beverages.
– when it comes to substances or pills ‘take a quarter & sip water’
– waiting at least two hours before redosing
– starting your intake later in the day
– remember you can always have more, but you can’t take less.

Consent!
– remember is must be mutual
– ongoing check-ins with each other
– enthusiastic and explicit aka fuck yes responses! If you’re unsure of their response, the answer is no.
– aware (you have to be ‘with it’ to give it) if the person is too intoxicated, they can’t consciously consent.

Heat & Hydration Awareness.
– remember to have enough water and electrolytes
– take rest breaks, hang out in the shade or cooler areas with fans/AC/swimming.
– be Sun smart and wear sunscreen and hat

Have a safety plan!
– make sure your phone is charged before going out. Some events have phone charging stations if you do run out of battery.
– establish a meeting spot if you get separated from friends
– look out for your mates and stick together
– plan how you’re getting home before going out

Test your drugs!
If you’re planning on using substances, make sure you get them tested. Currently CheQpoint services operate in Brisbane and the Gold Coast on Fridays 2pm-6pm (it’s totally free and anonymous).
They will also be operating a service at schoolies on the GC everyday 16th – 22nd Nov 2pm-6pm available for all registered schoolies attendees.
