Straight Up is a new booklet developed by Hi-Ground – a harm reduction initiative – designed to support the wellbeing of young people who use alcohol and other drugs. The content is informed by a 2024 survey conducted by Hi-Ground, which asked Queensland-based young people aged 14 to 25 who use drugs what information they wanted to access. Respondents recommended highlighting the voices of young people with lived experience, providing unbiased, non-judgmental and practical harm reduction information, and promoting help-seeking without stigma. The booklet includes information on drug effects (including the risks of mixing substances), how to respond to an overdose, legal rights, and mental health topics, including trauma.
